What we have here is a 1940 Triumph 350 single, 3HW model. The 3HW was primarily made during WW2 and sold to the forces. As far as I am aware they were never sold to the public. This one appears to have been civilianised to some degree though with lots of chrome and maroon paint, which would have been much more like the period Speedtwin of the time. The bike has been reimported from Egypt in the last few years, so I suspect that it was one that had actually been left out there during WW2. So it has only come home quite recently. It comes with a current V5C, so is fully registered in this country now. The bike starts easily and runs OK. Please note that for the purposes of the video above I had the tick over turned up a bit while I walked around the bike. I would say that this is an on going project as it needs wiring up to get the lights working, the chainguard is missing, there is no speedometer fitted, and of course it would be your choice if you stuck with the civilian look, or went back to army colours. Desert bikes in particular are quite rare and sort after in the re-enactment circles. There is plenty of green army bikes, but not so many sand coloured ones which this would have been if it was originally destined for Egypt. Look at the pictures though and notice the nicely rebuilt wheels, new tyres, lots of bling, a decent running engine, a current log book and consider how much has already been done here. You can do the minimum work needed to this and just run it as is if you want, or this is prime opportunity as a bike to restore and put back to desert spec… ready to go and fight Rommel again in one of the many re-enactments that happen. There is a dating cert on file that shows both the engine and frame are from 1940. It is no longer possible to say for certain if the engine and frame left the factory together as the factory records went up in the Blitz in November 1941. However, by this point in time this machine was in Egypt and was probably doing it’s bit against the dessert fox. It is a fact that the army loved them to bits at the time very much preferring these over the many M20s that were in circulation and they would literally run circles around the 741 Indians that the yanks brought over later on. They were a good reliable tough little bike in their day. 07718 593259 to view. Located in Chesterfield and I can get it delivered to your door for £150 by courier. The last two photos show what they would have looked like at the time. The dark green one is the normal army colour, the sand on was for the dessert. No Paypal or credit cards accepted.
