1960 BSA A10 Golden Flash. This machine comes with a current V5C which shows it is historic, so is tax and MOT exempt at this age.
This bike has basically been restored to how one man wanted it. This is a 1960 machine but with a lot of bits on it that should not necessarily be there. But the guy built the A10 that he wanted and the way he wanted it too look. The obvious things are the Ariel hubs which were an earlier fitment, and to many these were considered superior to the brakes that initially followed. Another obvious item is the much earlier and very rare tank. This tank with the winged badge was fitted to the first year swinging arm A10s only in 1954. After that they moved to the pear drop type badge. But this tank with the winged badge and chrome panels does look extremely attractive and was a feature the guy wanted. Obviously putting a standard tank back on is no problem, but the restorer simply preferred the look of this tank.
Other alterations which are less visible include an upgrade to 12 volt electrics plus electronic ignition fitted where the mag goes and an external oil filter. I believe there is also a Morgo oil pump. The file is stuffed full of bills running into the thousands. A lot of dough has been spent on this machine. For example, that is an original tank that has been renovated because that specific tank is not available repro. The wheels have all been rebuilt, the exhausts system was new and the whole bike has been painted very nicely. Frankly, this has had a ton of money thrown at it to get it to this standard and this spec. Study the pics and consider the costs involved to restore a machine to this standard today.
The bike starts very easily, usually first or second kick. It runs great. Its all lighting up and charging etc, and it pulls very well. This is a really well sorted and pleasant machine. No smoke or rattles or undue noise. Here is a short walk around video for you to look at:
You will hear how quite the engine is.
