1962 AJS 350 CSR. £ 2,500

1962 AJS 250 CSR, with an earlier 350cc G5 engine fitted. V5C is present and it has its original reg which is transferrable. The bike is classed as historic, so is tax and MOT exempt. The log book reflects the engine change and upgrade to 350cc, so all the numbers on the bike do match the paperwork.

The bike its self is original and unrestored. Interestingly it still carries its original dealer badges which is C.J.Seely of Belveder in Kent, which is close to Bexley Heath on the South East side of the Thames in London. Colin Seeley was a famous racer and frame builder, but also had a shop and was an AJS main agent. Here is some info on his and a picture of his shop which the bike was sold from:

So, the bike has not been restored and retains its original rims, chrome tank and chrome guards. The CSR 250 model was the sports model of the range in 1962 and was highly tuned. I assume this has had a blow up at some point and instead of putting back in a 250cc engine, someone has fitted the larger and less stressed 350cc engine, which in affect is an upgrade. As such this machine has the best of both worlds. All the bling of the CSR but with the less stressed but more powerful 350cc engine fitted.

As you can see from the video above, the bike runs great and is charging strongly. It rides fine, has new tyres fitted and is good to go. Showing five owners from new on the log book and mileage of only 16,868 which is likely to be original, the last owners told me that they had stripped the engine for inspection and found it to be perfect inside. The bike certainly starts easily and runs well. All original electrics, switches, levers, fittings etc. This represents and ideal classic 350 from 1962 in good working order. It is not mint, but it is still tidy and presentable and a good all round every day usable classic at the right money.
